So I’ve already written a post on Pagan Wedding Gifts but have had many questions sent in asking about Pagan gifts for other occasions. Being a Pagan like with any other religion there will be plenty of things that can be given as gifts. Grandparents Gifts

Even though you may be generations apart, buying gifts for grandparents is not hard to do. All that grandparents want is a little gesture to show them that you love and care for them.

My first bit of advice when considering a gift for your grandparents is to have a think about their interests. Does your grandma enjoy sewing? If so she might enjoy a new sewing box or maybe some new materials and threads to whip up a brand new creation. Is your grandpa into gardening? Then what about getting him some new gardening gear?. In fact your grandparents like everyone else are probably avid movie watchers. So what about getting them one of their old favorite movies to watch or a classic TV show. Remember though just because your grandparents are older that doesn’t necessarily mean they are into older things. They might be into the latest DVDs out or even latest gadgets, just like everybody else.

If you’re not sure what your grandparents interests are then a good idea is to get them something to stimulate their minds. Many older people often enjoy playing puzzles and games so consider getting them a jigsaw puzzle or maybe a vintage set of checkers or an electronic sudoku game. Books are another great idea for your grandparents gift. A book about The Americanstravel, history or even cooking would all make great gifts.

Are you grandparents retired? If so they probably have a little bit of time on their hands and this means that might enjoy learning a new skill or starting up a new hobby. So consider getting them a membership to a local club. They might also enjoy cooking lessons or even art classes. Alternatively get them tickets to see a show at the theatre or tickets to their favourite sporting event.

Cheap Wedding Gift

Weddings can be expensive events for everybody involved, including the guests. So while you may want to show the newlyweds how happy you are for them, you want to do so without going bankrupt in the process. Luckily many couples these days register for gifts. Have a look at what has been registered and hopefully they have listed some inexpensive items that you can afford. If on the other hand there is no register there is still some wonderful wedding gifts that you can get for the bride and groom that can be cheap.

My first bit of advice to you is to get creative. Are you good at sewing, painting or cooking? If you can sew than you could make some pillow cases with their names on it or a quilt, whatever you are good at making I’m sure would make a beautiful gift. Likewise if you are good at painting you could paint the couple a portrait or a fine piece of artwork for their home, use your imagination this kind of gift would probably mean more to the couple then something you just bought from a store anyway.

If cooking is your talent then you could make some tasty jams/sauces/dips/chocolates and find some pretty containers to put them in and just present them in a nice basket with ribbon, it will look like it cost $50+ but you could get away with spending around $20. You could also add in some little extras like cu tlery, l ittle bowls, whatever you can find.

Don’t despair if you can’t make anything as there is still cheap things you can buy. You could find a nice photo frame and put a picture of the happy couple in there. Alternatively you could put a romantic poem inside the photo frame if you don’t have any photos of the couple.

Another cheap wedding gift idea is a bottle of wine or scotch that will age well and include this with a note saying that they should share this on their 10th or 20th wedding anniversary. You could also find some inexpensive champagne flutes or any other type of glass or tableware. A vase is another good gift idea for a wedding that doesn’t need to cost too much.

Another idea is to get a book about love or filled with romantic poems. Any type of keepsake gift is good, and maybe scribble your own little note in there.

To try and save some money why don’t you also have a look around markets and second-hand stores. Sometimes you can find some real bargains at these places and yet they will look like they are worth a lot more. Also you may even have some glasses or an old vase around your place that you no longer use but is still in great condition to give as a gift.

Whatever you do get it is the thought that counts and the couple will just be grateful to have you there to celebrate their special day with them. The gift that you do give should show that you are happy for them, and when it comes to wedding gifts its not about how much you spend it’s about the thought and the sentiment you put into it.

Pagan Wedding Gifts

With many people these days shunning the norm and opting for less traditional ceremonies, many people are having what is called a “pagan ceremony”. Traditionally in the old Pagan times in Britain, a pagan ceremony involved a hand-fasting which committed the couple together for a year and a day, after which time they were free to separate if they wished (which considering 1 in 2 marriages end in divorce probably wasn’t such a bad idea). Now however a pagan ceremony covers all types of rituals and it really depends on the individual couple as to what it will be like. It could be a hand-fasting to last a year and a day or a different kind of civil union that will last for a lifetime or an eternity, and the ceremony is likely to be as unique as the couple. So what on earth do you get for a pagan wedding gift when you’re not familiar with the traditions??

The answer to this is easy, get whatever you would get for any other wedding you would go to, unless of course you’ve been told to not give gifts or there is a registry available. Just because a couple has a wedding in a different format to the original doesn’t mean they don’t enjoy the same presents as everybody else. A lot of people think though that candles or candle holders are a good gift for a pagan wedding. While I don’t disagree everybody will no doubt be getting candles for the newlyweds so you might want to get something a little more unique.

The couple may be a little more spiritual than other couples, so maybe some artwork would be appreciated. What about some wall art or a beautiful sculpture that would mean something to the couple.

If the couple are having a pagan wedding they may also be more into Celtic themed items. So what about some Celtic glassware or Celtic kitchenware.

How much to spend on wedding gift?

Weddings can be expensive and not just for the bride and groom, people often have a hard time deciding how much to spend on a wedding gift. The amount you should be expected to spend on a wedding gift depends on a lot of factors. First thing to ask yourself when getting a wedding gift is “what is the relationship I have with the couple getting married?“. Do you know them well, are they your best friend? I think the better you know the couple and the closer relationship you have with them the more you should be reasonably expected to spend. For instance if you are going to a coworkers wedding $50-$100 is an appropriate amount whereas for a relative or close friend you may want to spend more in the $100-$150 range.

Another question to ask yourself is “what can I realistically afford?“. If you are a highflyer that spends hundreds of dollars just on your socks then the married couple may find you to be a bit stingy if you give them a $20 gift. If however you are a struggling uni student don’t worry because you will not be expected to spend much, if $20 is all you can afford then that’s ok.

Other things to consider when debating how much you want to spend is how much you are spending to get to the wedding in the first place. You will be expected to pay less if you have to fork out to travel long distances or if you have to pay for accommadation. You will however be expected to pay more if you bring a guest as it is expected that you will both chip in for the gift. Also you may have already given gifts for the bridal shower or at an engagement party. If this is the case then you will not be expected to spend much more for a wedding gift. Though if you are giving a gift for a bridal shower or engagement I would keep this a small gift to start with. If it helps you as well a lot of people go by the rule of covering what they think the couple spent on their meal at the wedding, so as to help cover their costs, which is usually $50-$75pp. I think this is a bit arbitary though and don’t personally like this way of thinking, but it may help some.

Overall the main thing I would consider is what you will feel comfortable giving to the wedding couple. When I was younger and just out of school I went to a wedding of a good friend but all I could afford was a $40 gift so that’s what I gave. The couple later told me that others had spent more but that just made them feel guilty because they knew that they couldn’t really afford it. Now however I tend to spend more like $100, but I have a partner now too so that I can split the cost. Really though I think the couple are really just happy to have you there to share their day with them, and anything that you give will be appreciated as long as it shows them that you care.

Gift Hamper Ideas

When you want to congratulate somebody for a special occasion a good idea is to get them a gift hamper. There are a number of gift hampers available online or from gift shops and it is important that you choose the right type depending on the occasion or event or with these ideas you can simply put one together yourself.

Weddings Hampers: For a wedding gift hamper you want it to be romantic. A bottle of champagne inside is a good place to start as the couple can open it to celebrate their new life together. You can also include a couple of champagne flutes. Then you can think of a specific food theme for example breakfast, dessert or Italian just to name a few. If you were choosing the breakfast theme you could include some gourmet teas and coffees, syrups, jams, muesli and maybe a nice serving plate or some nice napkins. Also if you have their wedding invitation or are sending this after the wedding you can decorate the basket with the wedding colors (because you know they like them right?)

Corporate Hampers: For a corporate hamper keep it simple and clean and try and include the company logo on the hamper somewhere. Generally you’ll probably include items like a bottle of wine/liqueur, stationary, a calendar and some gourmet nibbles.

Baby Gift Hampers: I find these the cutest of the hamper types. Make sure you make these colorful and fun. Normally they come with nappies, baby lotions (and maybe some for mummy too), baby food, jumpsuits, little baby socks and maybe a rattle or some type of plush toy as well. These are really fun to make and baby stuff is pretty cheap too. So these would be a great gift for a baby shower or new born.

All the rest: Most gift hampers are pretty similar and can be used for other occasions ranging from a birthday to a job promotion to a new house. Whilst the above are more specific the main formula stays the same really. You want a nice drop of something either a wine or a liqueur (or beer if its a male gift). Also you want some gourmet nibbles such as some nice chocolates or dips and breads or cheeses and syrups (preferably something that will preserve for awhile) and you maybe you want some kind of dinnerware (for housewarming gift) or some pampering products (for a female) or maybe a cuddly teddy bear if its a get well gift. That’s it really then put all your goodies in a nice basket, fill it and wrap it with some cellophane or paper or whatever other pretty things you find. Finish with some ribbon and voila you’ve got yourself a gift hamper.
