What to get a geek?

Geek  - noun: a peculiar or otherwise odd person, especially one who is perceived to be overly obsessed with one or more things including those of intellectuality, electronics, etc.spaceinvaderswrap

If the above sounds like the person you are buying a gift for then their present choice should be obvious. What do geeks want? Geeks want electronics, gadgets or anything else that can stimulate their mind. So the number one thing I would recommend for a geek gift (if they haven’t already got it) is of course the latest Apple iPod. Another gadget (which I myself really want hint hint nudge nudge) is the Kindle. In case you’re not familiar with these, they are like an iPod except for books and have been predicted as being the future of book reading, so we practically need one right?

How much to spend on wedding gift?

Weddings can be expensive and not just for the bride and groom, people often have a hard time deciding how much to spend on a wedding gift. The amount you should be expected to spend on a wedding gift depends on a lot of factors. First thing to ask yourself when getting a wedding gift is  “what is the relationship I have with the couple getting married?“. Do you know them well, are they your best friend? I think the better you know the couple and the closer relationship you have with them the more you should be reasonably expected to spend. For instance if you are going to a coworkers wedding $50-$100 is an appropriate amount whereas for a relative or close friend you may want to spend more in the $100-$150 range.

Gift Ideas 2 Year Old

When trying to think of a gift idea for a 2 year old it is a good idea to think of the interests of the parents because this will help you to ascertain what the child would be curious about and what they would want to play with. Young kids always seem to be wanting to do what they see their parents doing. For example  a child with artistic parents would probably want to stomp around in paint all day so some kind of art supplies would probably be best for them such as crayons, paints, an easel or even a coloring book (just make sure you get non-toxic stuff and make it washable too).

Gift Ideas 5 Year Old

I think that when it comes to gift ideas for 5 year olds there is one thing that they will always want  – toys. No matter how many toys they have they will want more and this goes for boys and girls. So what toy do you get them? Check out the top toys on amazon.com or ask a sales assistant at your local toy store and if the 5 year old in question does not have one of these top toys I have no doubt that they will want them. Also amazon.com allows you to specifically select age ranges, gender and price ranges to make your gift searching even easier.

Getting Gifts Online

These days rather than trawling through store after store many people are preferring to shop online for their gifts and goodies. Whilst some may save time by doing this, for others shopping online can be even more frustrating as there is so much to look at and sift through, but that is where I am here to help :)

The first place to go to is amazon.com. This place doesn’t just sell books, you can find almost anything on this site so is a great first place stop. Another great place if you’re on a budget is target.com which again sells almost everything too.

Fair Trade and Feel Good Gifting

When buying gifts not only is it important to think about the recipient in question, but also where it is that your hard earned cash is going to. There are a number of gifts you can get that can help support charities and go towards good causes. Since there are a number of charities and organizations around think about the type that you personally support. Firstly consider buying a gift that is fair trade. When buying fair trade products you are supporting international trade and buying a product that has been produced and exchanged ethically and without exploiting its workers. Personally I’m a big fan of Oxfam as these guys sell so many beautiful products that support fair trade and help many communities. There are also plenty of other fair trade companies around so when shopping online type in fair trade to find a gift that is suitable for you or alternatively there will often be a label saying “fair trade” on the product.

What to get the person who has everything?

Don’t you hate that person who has everything they could ever ask for, and no matter what you could give them it wouldn’t be worthy. Well the present for this type of person is actually easy. Don’t get them anything material, because chances are they already have it and probably the best version of it too. Instead get this person what nobody can have enough of… experiences. Buying people adventure, romance or weekends away is a great experience gift idea for any person and for all occasions. There are a number of sites where you can get these type of gifts, if you live in Australia check out www.redballoondays.com.au or www.freemanx.com.au or for anybody else simply type “adventure gifts” into Google and your bound to find all sorts of experiences you can buy for the one you love. With a range of experiences available you’re bound to find something in your budget and suitable for the type of person your getting it for. For an adrenalin junkie you can get them a skydive; for many men, they might appreciate a day trip in their dream car or maybe for the girls a day spa indulgence. The possibilities are endless so you need never be stuck for a gift again.

Researching the Perfect Gift

I know that some of you may be trawling through hundreds of sites (including this one) looking for the ultimate present when the answer could be staring you right in the face. Many people these days let the world know their wants and dislikes by way of the internet. If you have a look at your friends’ Facebook/Twitter/Myspace etc I think you’ll find that you’ll have more information then you need but hopefully as well these social networking sites can give you an insight into the types of gifts that they may want. If someone is repeatedly going on about the cricket perhaps get them tickets to a game. If someone’s status is repeatedly “I need new clothes” then you know what they want. Hope this helps you gift givers out there, plus we all need another excuse to go on Facebook, right?
